So, one of the common misconceptions about being a freelancer is that you get to take vacations whenever you want. While that is technically true, you can’t just drop everything and go.

I know this because, tomorrow, I’m hopping on a plane to go to my cousin’s wedding. It’s at a hot spring, and I’ve been warned that the wifi there leaves something to be desired. For the next five days, it’s going to be a lot harder for clients to get ahold of me, and I definitely don’t plan on getting any work done during that time.

So, what did I do to prepare myself? Well, first, I let all of my clients know that I would be out of town. I told them about a month ago, but gave them reminders earlier this week.

And, for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been preparing to go. I’ve been working later hours, looking further ahead in my schedule, and keeping notes on things clients owe me to make sure that everything gets resolved before I head out.

Today, I’m happy to report that all of my social media clients are scheduled through the break, all of my outstanding blogs are taken care of, and all of my clients know that they shouldn’t try to contact me unless there’s a significant emergency.

I’m looking forward to taking this vacation with a clear conscience. Hopefully, I’ll come back to my work feeling rested and energized!
